Medical Infrastructures in Laos

The healthcare system in Laos is generally modest, with medical facilities sometimes at a poor level in certain provinces. In case of a problem, it is recommended to turn to Thailand or Vietnam for surgical operations, where the quality of care is more reliable.

Overall, intensive care is not sufficiently assured across the territory of Laos. In case of a serious problem, it is recommended to evacuate to Thailand to Bangkok or Udon Thani by ambulance. There is no direct evacuation possibility to neighboring Thai cities by helicopter.

It is better to purchase health insurance before leaving for Laos.
