Travel from Hanoi to Quang Uyen, visit the Nung An ethnic village

7h00: Coach trip to Cao Bang, a border town in Vietnam's far northeast, recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Our destination is Quang Uyen, where you'll discover the rich culture of the Nung An ethnic group. This captivating region, situated 500 meters above sea level, is a tapestry of verdant landscapes and dramatic limestone karsts. Discover the Phia Thap village, specializing in crafting incense sticks, hidden amid limestone karsts. The Nung An people inhabit traditional stilt houses and have chosen to retain an ancestral way of life untouched by modernity. Embark on a 2- to 3-hour hike to explore the artisan villages in the Quang Uyen region. Visit the bamboo knitting village of Lung Ri, specializing in Ying Yang tiles, and finally, the Phuc Sen village, known for knife-making.

We'll start the day with a scenic, one-hour drive to the trekking point in Ha Lang. Our off-the-beaten-path trek will take us through the lush green fields of Cao Bang. Along the way, you'll see traditional tiled stilt houses, mossy fences, and locals grazing cattle on the grassy hills. Next, we'll hike to the magnificent Burnt Grass Hill, a unique landscape that changes with the seasons. From November to April, it's covered in golden grasses, while the rest of the year it becomes a vibrant green carpet. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a stunning sunset and visit a beautiful waterfall. Night in Halang.

After breakfast, we'll take a 10 km drive to our trekking point. We'll hike to a local ethnic minority village for a picnic lunch. Afterward, we'll continue our trek along the beautiful Quay Son River towards Co La Waterfall. The hike offers spectacular views of the surrounding villages and magnificent karst landscapes. Along the way, you'll see fascinating traditional water wheels that mountain communities use to irrigate their farmlands.

Ban Gioc Waterfall, Nguom Ngao Cave

Start the day with a homestay breakfast. Your guide will lead you near the Chinese border, following the trade routes locals once used to transport goods on horseback between China and Vietnam. Visit Ban Gioc Waterfall, located on the Sino-Vietnamese border. Be mesmerized by the beauty of these falls, renowned as Vietnam's most beautiful and the world's fourth-longest after Iguazu, Victoria, and Niagara. The ideal time to visit is during the rainy season (July to October), yet the allure persists year-round. Swimming is possible during specific periods of the year.

Option: Take a short bamboo raft ride on the Quay Son River for a closer view of Ban Gioc Falls.

Explore Nguom Ngao Cave, adorned with intricate stalactite and stalagmite formations, considered among Vietnam's most stunning after Phong Nha and Ke Bang. Then, trek from Khuoi Ki to the Bong Son village for a top the karst mountains. Overnight stay with the locals.

Breakfast. then we'll begin our drive back to Hanoi, making our way through the province of Lang Son. Follow the historic RC4 road, which traces the Chinese border and played a key role in Vietnam’s military history. Pass through Dong Khe and That Khe, sites of major battles with French forces in October 1950. Stops are planned at Luang Phai Pass, Bascou Bridge, and That Khe.
